Alex Honnold Survives Deadly Ice Falls | Arctic Ascent

The second episode of Arctic Ascent picks up mid expedition, with Honnold and the climbing team hit by ice fall before they attempt a first ever traverse of the Renland Ice Cap. The traverse is not the goal, it is the road to the goal: the final wall waiting on the far side. Of the three episodes this is the one furthest from rock climbing and closest to straight polar travel, which is exactly what makes it interesting. Objective hazard arrives without warning and without any relationship to how strong you are. Worth watching for the middle stretch of a big expedition, the part that films usually cut.
