Piedra Parada

Piedra Parada in Chubut province and the neighbouring La Buitrera Canyon form a distinct Patagonian climbing pocket: an isolated monolith rising from the pampas and a roughly 5 km canyon with cliffs up to 200 m high. Those contrasting features — a freestanding tower and long canyon walls — attracted international climbers and developers, and they were the focus of the Petzl RocTrip held there in November 2012.

The official film from that event, Petzl RocTrip Argentina 2012 - The official movie, documents the festival format: visiting climbers, local developers, and the dynamic of putting up new lines alongside established routes. The footage shows route development work on multi‑pitch faces, the scale of the cliffs in La Buitrera, and the variable conditions participants faced (wind, dust, heat and cold). With more than 1,500 attendees reported at that edition of the RocTrip, the film also records how a large international gathering interacts with a newly developing area.
