Mossatrocity is a 7C boulder problem in Padley Gorge, near Grindleford Station in the Peak District of England, a short walk from the train platform. It follows a compression line up a moss-flecked gritstone block, a style that gives the problem its name as much as any real difficulty finding purchase on the rock. Climbers who have done it generally call the grade soft for 7C, with no single hard move, but pumpy enough over its length that skin and stamina matter as much as raw strength.

History

No first ascent is recorded in the online databases that log the problem, so who climbed it first and when is not established. It has built a steady reputation since as a genuine Peak District classic: the kind of short, technical line that repeat visitors describe as justifying a long drive for grit specifically, rather than any single dramatic move. It sits within the wider Grindleford Station bouldering, a compact, well-visited pocket of the eastern grit close to the train line.

On film

WIFE ON HOLD - Gritstone Bouldering (Leo Skinner, 2026) is a roughly 25-minute edit shot across Peak District, Northumberland and North Yorkshire grit, following Sam Carling, Leo Skinner, Solly Kemball-Dorey and Finn Parry. Mossatrocity appears as one of the Peak District lines in that survey of English gritstone bouldering, shown alongside other problems from the same trip rather than as a standalone feature.
