The Northeast Ridge is the principal high-altitude route on Everest’s north side and the corridor where early 20th‑century attempts—including Mallory and Irvine’s 1924 expedition—took place. As presented in the film, the ridge is the focus of crowded summit pushes, logistical and ethical questions about commercial guiding, and the search for historical remains; the climb itself involves long exposure at extreme altitude, objective weather and route conditions, and the unique challenges of operating above 8,000 metres.
