Arc'teryx Presents: Baffin
2016 · 16 min · Big Wall, Alpine, Ice Climbing, Documentary
In August 2016, Marc-Andre Leclerc and Brette Harrington travelled to Great Sail Peak on Baffin Island and made two first ascents on its walls. Directed by James Kim with cinematography by Joshua Lavigne, the film documents that Arctic expedition: big wall rock, ice, and a long way to go wrong. Leclerc died in 2018, and the film now carries a closing dedication to him. Sixteen minutes, and it works as both an expedition record and a portrait of a partnership. The Arctic setting does a lot of the work, granite rising straight out of empty country with nobody else for hundreds of miles. Worth watching if you know Leclerc from The Alpinist and want to see him at work with Harrington rather than alone.
