In May 2025 Adam Ondra flashed Lexicon, the E11 7a on Pavey Ark in the Lake District that Gresham first climbed in September 2021, making the sixth ascent and the first without falls or prior beta. Mammut's film builds from archive of Gresham's first ascent through Ondra's preparation to the attempt.
This is for climbers curious about how sport ability translates to hard British trad, and for anyone who has never understood E grades. The moves are around 8b+, protected by small gear on a headwall where a fall could run 25 to 30 meters, and the film says so plainly. Skip it if you want the flash and nothing else. Twenty-two minutes here is mostly conversation about mindset and gear, and the climbing arrives late.
What works is Ondra as a beginner. He talks about feeling like a novice placing and trusting protection, and he rappelled the line facing away from the rock to avoid seeing the holds. Those details make the flash comprehensible. What it gets wrong is the archive. The BritRock clips of Gresham are brief and I wanted more of the first ascent.
