A documentary-length portrait of Dean Potter that follows the lines between invention, risk and personal life. The film traces Potter’s search for joy and escape through climbing and aerial sports, showing new ascents and record attempts alongside interviews and archival footage. Much of the climbing footage is set in Yosemite Valley and on El Capitan–scale walls, and the film places those achievements next to the strain they put on relationships and community ties. The value of the film is its sustained attention to technique and consequence: you see big-wall and free-solo climbing on Yosemite walls, and scenes that contextualize Potter’s highlining and aerial projects within the wider conversation about risk in the sport. Rather than celebratory portraiture, the film foregrounds the practical realities of pushing standards on steep, trad big walls and the real-world tradeoffs that followed.
