"WoGü" (350m / 8c) Full Ascent by Cédric Lachat - CLIMBING RAW EDITS

A raw edit that earns the name, and the most useful film on the site for anyone thinking about hard multi-pitch pacing. Cédric Lachat leads WoGü, 350 meters and nine pitches of Rätikon limestone topping out at 8c, in one day without a fall, with Nina Caprez belaying and climbing alongside him.

This is for climbers who want to see how consecutive hard pitches actually link: the rests, the transitions at belays, the rope work under sustained difficulty. Guillaume Broust leaves it unembellished and lets the ascent unfold. Skip it if you want the story of the route. Beat Kammerlander put it up in 1997 and named it for Wolfgang Güllich, and a 15-year-old Adam Ondra made the first redpoint in 2008. None of that history is in this edit.

What works is the length. Twenty-three minutes is long enough to feel the pitches stack up, and Lachat's pacing on the 8c pitch is the best single sequence. What it leaves out is Caprez. She is a partner here, not a subject, and the film treats her as a belayer.

Swissway to Heaven is Broust's finished feature with Lachat across five Swiss areas, including the Rätikon, cut with interviews from the people who opened the routes. That is the version with context. This is the outtake reel, and for pure climbing it is the one I return to.
