Emotional Landscapes 8C

Emotional Landscapes is an 8C boulder problem in the Maltatal valley in Carinthia, Austria. Klem Loskot established the line in 2002, and it has stood since as one of the touchstone hard boulders of its era: sustained, powerful climbing that asks for total body tension across a long sequence rather than a single crux move. At 8C it sits among the harder problems of its generation, and its age and difficulty have kept it a proving ground for two decades of visiting climbers.

History

Loskot bouldered the line in 2002 after working it over multiple sessions, and for years it saw very few repeats, a reflection of both its difficulty and its remote setting. Nicolai Užnik made the first re-ascent in 2023 after a foothold broke, and proposed the problem should now go at 8C+, though it is still often cited at its original grade. Michael Piccolruaz and Jakob Schubert both climbed it on March 5, 2026, keeping it in circulation among current top boulderers, and Adam Ondra flashed it on March 11, 2026, his fourth 8C flash and a sign of how highly he rates the problem.
