Girasko Aei Didaskomenos 7a+ (5.12a)

Girasko Aei Didaskomenos is a bolted sport route at Iera Odos, a limestone crag on the western edge of Athens, Greece, in the Amphitheatro sector. The line begins on a crumbly slab before moving into pumpy, sustained climbing on steeper rock, with a boulder-problem crux that twists into and out of a nerve-pinching monodoigt pocket. Route databases record the fuller line at French 7b+ (5.12), while a shorter, more direct variant that skips part of the upper slab is graded 7a+ (5.12a), the version climbed and filmed here.

History

The route was first climbed by H. Orfanoudakis in 2004, according to route records for Iera Odos. The crag sits within Athens city limits and was developed by local climbers bolting sections incrementally rather than through a commercial guiding operation, which shows in the mixed rock quality and short approaches typical of the area. Iera Odos has since become one of the more visited Athens crags, and Girasko Aei Didaskomenos is noted repeatedly in route logs as a popular line, with no major grade disputes or notable repeat ascents beyond ordinary crag traffic.

Ilias Antonopoulos filmed his own redpoint of Girasko Aei Didaskomenos, at 7a+ (5.12a), with Antonis Mantakas climbing alongside him at the crag. The 2026 edit is a compact, roughly seven-minute sequence built around the send itself, moving through the slab opening and the pumpy midsection to the final crux sequence, shot with the close, first-person framing typical of a climber documenting their own project rather than a produced commercial edit.
