Lions' Share 8C

Lion's Share is an 8C boulder problem at Brione, Switzerland, in the Kingdom boulder area, climbed via wide compression moves. At 8C it sits at the current cutting edge of bouldering difficulty, and its opening sequence is widely considered the true crux: powerful, precise compression moves off the ground that set up the rest of the problem.

History

Aidan Roberts made the first ascent of Lion's Share in April 2023, using a crouch start into the wide compression. In February 2026, Adam Ondra flashed the boulder on his first attempt, part of a run in which he flashed four separate 8C problems within a couple of weeks, including Celestite in Val Bavona and Emotional Landscapes in the Maltatal. Ondra described the first two moves as the real crux of the climb and assessed the problem as low-end for the grade, while still rating it harder for him personally than some other 8C testpieces he had tried.

3x 8C Flash in 2 Weeks (2026) documents Adam Ondra's run of three 8C boulder flashes in Switzerland: Lion's Share, Celestite, and Emotional Landscapes, the last a Klem Loskot problem from 2002 that Ondra calls his proudest flash. Lion's Share is the first of the three covered, with Ondra working through Aidan Roberts' compression sequence and flashing it on sight, part of what the film frames as an unprecedented run of top-end flashes in a short span.
