Odyssee is a long, technical free route up the Eiger's north face, about 1,400 metres in length and graded roughly 8a+ for its hardest free pitches. Opened by Roger Schaeli, the line demands a sequence of difficult pitches interspersed with long approach pitches and serious exposure; it reads as a big alpine big-wall in which individual hard moves are embedded in committing, sustained pitch-to-pitch terrain. Climbs on Odyssee require both high-end free-climbing ability and the experience to manage route-finding, weather and rope teams on a major alpine face.
