Golden Shadow 8B+ / V14

Golden Shadow is a boulder problem in the Roadcrew area of Rocklands, South Africa, set on the region's orange sandstone. Graded 8B+ (V14), it climbs through a steep, tension-heavy roof on small, positive holds that reward precise body positioning over raw power alone. It sits among the harder testpieces in Rocklands' Roadcrew sector and is treated by visiting climbers as a serious multi-day project rather than a quick tick.

History

Sources disagree on who made the first ascent of Golden Shadow, with different route databases crediting Fred Nicole, Adam Ondra, and Gabriele Moroni; none of these could be confirmed against a second independent source, so no first ascensionist is stated here. What is consistent across records is a string of strong repeats: Nacho Sanchez made a quick ascent in July 2015, and the problem has since been climbed by younger boulderers including Oriane Bertone, part of a wider pattern of the grade being repeated by increasingly young climbers.
