Mooiste Meisie 8B / V13

Mooiste Meisie, often transliterated Moiste Maisie, is an 8B (V13) boulder at the Riverside crag in Rocklands, South Africa. The name is Afrikaans for prettiest girl, a nod to the rock itself: a sequence of toe hooks, slopey rails and gastons that ends in a hard deadpoint. At 8B it sits among the harder lines in an area better known for the sheer volume of excellent problems across the grades than for any single test piece, and it rewards precise body positioning as much as raw strength.

History

Fred Nicole made the first ascent in 2003, with Bernd Zangerl climbing it soon after for the second ascent the same year. It has since become one of Rocklands' benchmark 8B problems, with roughly two dozen recorded ascents. Jakob Schubert flashed it in July 2017, one of the more notable repeats, and strong visiting climbers have kept returning to it each South African bouldering season since, including a flash by Jan-Luca Posch in 2026. The crux jumping move near the top has kept it a target for traveling boulderers passing through Rocklands rather than a specialist problem limited to locals.

Jorg Verhoeven & Katha Saurwein (Louder Than Eleven, 2017) includes the boulder as one stop on Verhoeven, Saurwein and Jon Glassberg's tour of Rocklands classics. The film uses it, alongside other high-end Riverside and Rocklands problems, to show the area's mix of short, powerful sequences on pockets and slopers rather than the long, sustained lines climbers might expect from bouldering areas elsewhere.
