The Beaten Path

The Beaten Path is a boulder problem at The Coop, a sector in the Rocklands bouldering area in South Africa's Cederberg Mountains. Sources disagree on its grade: it is logged as 7C+ on one database and as 8A on another, so it sits at the boundary between the two grades. Like most Rocklands sandstone problems it rewards careful footwork and a patient read of the sequence, and at least one ascensionist has flagged the start as the hard, unpleasant part of the climb rather than anything higher up.

History

No source consulted gives a documented first ascentant or date for The Beaten Path. One database lists a climber identified as C. Bradburn against the problem, with a comment describing the start as intimidating, but this is not confirmed as a first-ascent record rather than simply a logged ascent. Repeat ascents recorded on video and in logs span from 2023 through 2026, including climbers Jon Pål Hamre, Titou Dechamboux and Ayala Kerem, which points to the problem being a steady, recurring objective for visitors to the sector rather than an obscure line.
